More than a restaurant, a symbol

Here the real Caprese cuisine prevails

What happens when you are looking for a restaurant that knows how to combine the Mediterranean tradition and be innovative without betraying the history of this island? The answer is in the menu of La Capannina, a tasteful place that has been welcoming its guests for decades. From 1929 to be exact.

If only the walls of La Capannina could talk, they would tell tales for months: interesting stories, unusual facts, moment in the lives of famous people and everyday people alike who over the course of the years have shared many a carefree moment in one of the historical restaurants on the island. Among the many photos that we affectionately take care of is the one with Aristotele Onassis and Jackie Kennedy, regulars to the blue island and to our restaurant.

From then a lot has changed, but fortunately not everything. For example, the passion with which we choose the ingredients and the wines for our menu have not changed. Also steadfast is the attention we dedicate to the preparation of our dishes, the quality that our clients have always looked for when they reserve a table in our restaurant.

For us local cuisine is sacred and we combine it with a delicate variation. So as not to bore even the most refined palates.

A piece of history in Capri

A restaurant that has become a legend
Telling the story of La Capannina restaurant is like going back in time. Its 1929 and Francesco arrives in Capri from a small village in Abruzzo to work as a chef at Grand Hotel Quisisana. After a few years he opens a small trattoria within walking distance of the square. In a short time it becomes the destination for nobles and intellectuals that choose Capri as a retreat. From 1961 the running of the restaurant went to his son Antonio that, still today, keeps on with the family tradiotion.

With emotion mixed with pride, Antonio tells the origins of the lucky local, by his father Francesco. We are in 1929 and Francesco arrives in Capri from a small village in Abruzzo to work as a chef at the Grand Hotel Quisisana. After a couple of years, he opened a small trattoria a few steps from the Piazzetta called “Savoia” and that, in a short time, became a destination for international clientele and above all intellectuals who chose Capri as a place of inspiration.

In the early ‘50s the restaurant moved to the premises that currently host it and, from 1961, the management passed to his son Antonio who continues the family tradition with the same commitment and the same passion.

As for the dishes, delicious spaghetti with rockfish, ordered two nights in a row, ravioli caprese excellent. The same is true about the fish. In fact, in all my travels around the world, I will cherish this tiny jewel in the centre of Capri and I will definitely return.
